Tiger of the Stripe is a small, independent book publisher based in the Borough of Richmond upon Thames in southwest London. Richmond is an attractive and historically-interesting town. It was known as Sheen until Henry VII built a new palace here in about 1500 and renamed the town after Richmond in Yorkshire. In turn, it gave its name to Richmond, Virginia. We are fortunate to have both Richmond Park and the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, on our doorstep, and Hampton Court is also close. Unfortunately, Heathrow Airport is within spitting distance and the planes can be very noisy!
In February 2008 we launched our new language imprint, Tiger Xenophon. It has its own web site here. Amongst its first batch of titles is a new ediition of Kennedy's Latin Primer in both US and UK editions. Many other titles will be coming in the next few months.
But our original Tiger of the Stripe imprint has not been forgotten. We have a number of very exciting books coming out in the next few months.
Our latest publications are two books on Handel: Schoelcher's substantial biography, and much shorter book, Anecdotes of George Frederick Handel and John Christopher Smith. We have a third work coming out shortly, Handel by William H. Cummings.
In march (we hope) will be published a new edition of William Blades's amusing and perceptive Enemies of Books. We have been impertinent enough to add a number of further enemies.
Years after everyone else, we have decided to add a blog, which you can see here.
We would welcome proposals for new books on living and dead languages and literature. Please use the contacts page.
